Description
This originally wasn't the normal engine to pull they had a little one that was number "3" that was my favorite but now she has received a full on restoration and I mean it looks better then ever! Sometimes they run it around behind 353 with a car or two but not this year
And one more thing: Woo steam power!!!
#353 was a B4 class 0-6-0 type steam locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company's Brooks Plant in Dunkirk, New York in 1920 for the Minneapolis, St. Paul, & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad Company along with 4 of her siblings to switch freight cars around the railyard.
She and her sisters, #350, #351, #352, and #354 were the last, and largest design of purpose-built switch engines that the Soo Line owned, any heavier switching duties were performed by down-graded 2-8-0 Consolidation type freight engines.
#353 was retired from service in December 1954. She is now operational and gives free rides annually at the Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's Reunion at Rollag, Minnesota. She also has an older sibling, #346 (built in 1915) on static display at the Wheels Across the Prarie Museum in Tracy, Minnesota.
